Tattoos have been around since almost 3,000 BC, as evidenced by the discovery of the “iceman” whose body was covered with artistic ink designs. Tattoos have, since ancient times, been associated with tribal identifying markings in parts of the world as diverse as the Americas, and the Celtic lands. In the middle of the 3rd century AD, Emperor Constantine banned tattoos, and after that they were widely viewed as something not to be done in civilized society.
